How do your shoes size compared to others?
Our shoes run true to size. And we suggest that you fit a size 11.5 child into a 12/13, and not an 11/12. That is, we never suggest that children enter our shoes midsize. One other small fitting point- I always stretch the top collar a small bit before putting the shoe on a customer. Experience has shown that the top line stretches and is very comfortable after a few short wearings, but it helps to stretch it a little in the store. We used independent fit testing from the ex head of testing at a major brand (Reebok) and customers have found that our shoes fit great. ( See Kid Shoe Conversion Chart )
The adjustment mechanism is somewhat difficult to adjust. What is happening here?
We like to say that our shoes are, "parent adjustable". They do require some hand strength to adjust- however, we would not want children to adjust the shoes, and we would not want them to inadvertently change sizes while in use. Therefore we have made them firm in the adjustment area. Consider also that the shoes will be adjusted only a couple or a few times during the time that they are owned.
We also find that it is helpful to view the size on the bottom before attempting to change the size. This way, one can tell whether to "open" or "close" the shoe.
Are the shoes waterproof and or machine washable?
While we have put the shoes in a washing machine, (without the innersoles) the mechanism and the shoes do withstand the rigors of the machine- we recommend that the shoes be hand washed and air dried. And although the materials have been treated with water repellent sprays, the shoes themselves are not waterproof. But water will not affect the performance of the mechanism.
Will children wear through your shoes?
Children in the size of the shoes which we offer are not heavy enough generally to wear through the outsoles of our shoes. If they drag their toe while on a bike they may destroy the upper. But on the whole, no, children will not wear through our shoes. It is more likely that the shoes will get "ratty" over time- but they should wear well through all of the sizes. Additionally, we do treat the innersoles with an antibacterial and anti-microbial spray.
How much longer should the shoe last than a normal or static shoe?
Children's feet decelerate as they grow. That is, their feet grow more slowly as they get older. Depending on the age and growth patterns of a particular child, we estimate that the IFIT(r) technology will extend the life of our shoes by 3 to 6 months.
Why hasn't this been done before?
Because as simple as it is to operate the shoe - this was not easy to accomplish!
Will the shoe change size during use?
It is virtually impossible for this to happen. The internal mechanics of the shoe are extremely rigorous. Although we have not conducted this particular test, it is our belief that if we put the shoes on a pull test machine, you would rip the shoe apart before moving the mechanism.
How do I find my child’s correct shoe size?
Kids feet and shoes are all made differently! We suggest as a general guideline to find proper size shoe for your child the following: Children ages 2 ˝ to 4 years old will generally fit inchworm shoe size 10-11; Children ages 4 to 5 years old will generally fit inchworm shoe size 11-12; Children ages 5 to 6 years old will generally fit inchworm shoe size 12-13 and 13-1; and Children ages 7 to 9 years old will generally fit inchworm shoe size 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 and 4-5.
